What does the cardiologist do?
Everything revolves around the heart here
Our cardiologists in Dénia diagnose and treat mainly cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. These are among the most common diseases and are one of the most common causes of death.
Where are the priorities?
Cardiology is responsible for all congenital and acquired diseases of the cardiovascular system and blood circulation. The cardiologist recognizes serious diseases such as myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) or infarcts, but also high blood pressure with special examinations such as stress ECG, long-term ECG or echocardiography (heart ultrasound).

What diseases does cardiology treat?
From high blood pressure to myocarditis
High blood pressure (hypotension)
High blood pressure (hypotension) is a very widespread lifestyle disease that is mainly caused by unhealthy living conditions such as too little exercise, smoking or poor nutrition. Typical symptoms are headache, fatigue, but also visual disturbances. If the pressure is consistently above 140/90, it needs to be treated. High blood pressure damages the blood vessels, the heart and the kidneys. It can also lead to consequential damage, such as stroke, heart failure and heart attack, but the retina or kidneys can also be affected.
Cardiac arrhythmias
Arrhythmias present as tachycardia (when the heart beats too fast) or bradycardia (heart beats too slowly). They can be the symptoms of various serious heart diseases.
Heart failure
In heart failure (heart muscle weakness), the coronary arteries are narrowed so that the body can no longer be supplied with sufficient oxygen. Those affected notice this through reduced performance and shortness of breath. Heart failure can affect the left or right heart muscle, but it can also affect the entire heart. It occurs in varying degrees of severity, but is one of the most common causes of death. It is triggered by coronary heart disease, increased blood pressure or diseases or inflammation of the heart muscle.
Heart attack
A heart attack is a blockage of a blood vessel in the heart muscle. As a result, the muscle is no longer supplied with oxygen and no longer performs any work. The cause can be high blood pressure, but risk factors such as smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, high cholesterol and diabetes also play an important role. Signs of a heart attack include pain in the left side of the chest, shortness of breath, and a feeling of anxiety.
Vascular diseases
Vascular diseases (diseases of the coronary arteries) arise when deposits form in the coronary arteries (arteriosclerosis). This constricts the vessels and the organs are no longer sufficiently supplied with oxygen. This leads to pain in the chest area and a feeling of pressure, angina pectoris. In addition, the so-called coronary heart disease can develop, but secondary diseases can also occur here, such as cardiac insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmia or infarction.
Myocarditis
Myocarditis (heart muscle inflammation) is often the result of influenza infections. Viruses or bacteria infect the heart muscle, resulting in palpitations or palpitations. In the long term, the inflammation can also lead to an arrhythmia. With sufficient rest, heart muscle inflammation usually heals completely, but there can also be long-term effects.
